It occurs to me that a lot of bloggers on this site are from outside the UK (mmm, so maybe we’re not the centre of the universe after all). So from time to time I hope to give advice to people planning on visiting the UK. Here’s a few snippets I can think of to start…
Although it rarely gets cold, a rain cloud is often not far away. Bring good rainwear
Bring lots of money – it’s an expensive place. Even then, try to avoid taking a taxi if you can help it! If you use public transport, you will often get a far lower price if you book in advance on the internet. If you’re travelling from London to Scotland, the budget airlines (Easyjet and Ryanair) will often be the cheapest and quickest solution.
Away from London the prices can be lower. I recommend visiting Bristol, Chester, Nottingham, York, Durham or Lincoln in England. Edinburgh in Scotland is a gem but hotel prices may be high. It can be better to stay in Glasgow instead and travel across to Edinburgh for the day.
I’ll post again on this subject as and when I can think of more advice
