I think I spoke too soon on my previous entry. Today we’ve got torrential rain. All that lovely sunshine has disappeared. Never mind – good for the garden! Elsewhere things appear to be picking up in the jobs market. I had a phone technical interview on Wednesday (didn’t perform too well unfortunately so lost out on that), have another telephone interview mapped in for Tuesday, and the possibility of another job interview in Bracknell. Still plenty of opportunity to fail them both, but at least I’m in with a shout.. I think

Fight back!
Something inside me snapped. I’d got tired of hearing of job losses, jobs outsourced overseas etc. So I decided to do something about it. I set up this site (only started functioning today):
http://www.howtofightback.co.uk/
I’m hoping that it’ll give people help and encouragement in looking for work, writing cvs or starting up on their own. Early days obviously, but I want to make it a great resource spot as well as somewhere for people to give their opinion and encourage others.
So, if you’re reading this, please take a look. Better still, join the forum and give your nuggets of advice. It may help one of us find a job some day!

No real jobs around..
..so it’s about time I started up my own business. Any ideas anyone? Actually I have quite a few potential scenarios and I will be following these up over the next few weeks. I suspect I’ll have to work in several fields in the attempt to keep my head above water. Watch this space…
Having said that, it’s really nice and sunny outside again. I may just go for long walks every day if the good weather continues…:)

Are we doomed?
Companies and factories appear to be closing down wherever we look. Yet the only action the government appears able to take is to pump umpteen billions of pounds into the failed banks. Have we all gone mad? I wouldn’t mind if it seemed to be working, but so far things look grim. Let’s hope the economy picks up soon.

Politics – no thanks?
People seem to be getting excited as regards the prospect of having a new Conservative government. I don’t see that it will make any difference as regards major policies. I’m old enough to remember the last Conservative government. For every high-lighted cut in income tax, we were hit with a doubling of the VAT rate, and/or major hikes in National Insurance. I doubt things will change much for most of the population now if Dave wins power. Not that I’m a great lover of New Labour. Whereas most people appear to be better off than they were in 1997, I’m in a lot worse position. Despite the fact that my skills and diligence are far greater than they were in the 90s, I’ve gone from being someone who was never out-of-work to being semi-permanently washed-up. I know others in the same boat, so I choose not to believe the hype about there being plenty of jobs. For your misrepresentation of the truth, Gordon, I’m sorry to say but You’re fired!
