It’s estimated that between 3 and 4 billion’s worth of work has been lost by problems caused by snow in the UK. Well guess what – no-one cares! It’s not often people get the chance to take some time out, play in the snow and generally escape the stress of modern day life. I find snow to be quite amazing – it transforms the landscape, and even the greyest ugliest townscape can become virgin white (if only for a few hours).  Besides which, 3 – 4 billion? Look, we’ve just had to pay off the banksters to the tune of hundreds of billions. These big figures no longer impress us!

The fading of the light.

Been quite a week really. My mother reached her 70th birthday, it snowed (in October!) in many parts of England (northern Spain too, believe it or not), and I manged to survive until another payday. There really isn’t enough work to keep me full occupied, and it’s the worst thing in the world stringing things out and pretending to be busy. Having said that, my company do need me for the production run halfway through the month (when I can be busy) and if they do need to sling me out, they now have to give me 4 weeks notice. So, it’s a case of keeping my head down until December – after which time the new system is due to be implemented and I’m looking for work elsewhere.

Another thing that happened this week was the old guy next door passing away. Right up to (nearly) the end he kept pottering about, throwing bread to the birds and chasing his neighbours for keeping windows/doors open. A shame that he didn’t seem to have any family visit him and that he died alone, but at least he was active to the end. RIP Stefan.

American Inventor

Peter Jones is not a man I’m fond of, yet I have to say his show American Inventor (of which I’ve only just become aware) is great entertainment. Ok, so it’s obviously derived from mixing The Apprentice and Dragon’s Den, but it’s worth searching out. Currently you can access it in the UK on Virgin if you have digital television, or on Youtube.

Speaking of the Apprentice, a new series is currently being shown in the UK. Again, great entertainment, but I do wonder about the motives of those taking part. If the applicants really were the cream of their business peer-group, why would they go through such hard tasks in order to join Amstrad – which, let’s face it, is probably in its Autumn stage. Still, at least they’re not auditioning to join Northern Rock, are they?

Oh, by the way, we had snow on the ground this morning (gasp!) Not quite on the Whitney scale (sometimes the snow comes down in June…) but it shows that you can never know what’s around the corner!

Have a good week!!!
