A new month

September is a funny month. You can still get warm days, there’s loads of food to harvest even if you don’t have a garden (get down the park lane and pich some blackberries) and there’s still ne real need to put on the heating. Yet the roads become busy again – recession or no recession, those lazy kids still need driving to school – and it starts to become progressively darker in the evening. Will there be a job for yours truly this month? Hmm, we’ll have to see. In the meantime I must take advantage of my free time and get out into that fresh air. First though, I have to buy some shoes. Unfortunately my last pair have developed gaping holes. Not good.

..so it’s about time I started up my own business. Any ideas anyone? Actually I have quite a few potential scenarios and I will be following these up over the next few weeks. I suspect I’ll have to work in several fields in the attempt to keep my head above water. Watch this space…

Having said that, it’s really nice and sunny outside again. I may just go for long walks every day if the good weather continues…:)

Buskers

I’m one of those mugs who give money occasionally to beggars or the homeless, especially if they’re selling the Big Issue. Well, when I’m in work I do so. I musr admit that part of this is a real fear that I could end up in the same situation (although I have an exit strategy planned if things get this bad). But I find it hard to give to buskers – it seems like a double reward to me. They are already blessed with the ability to play an instrument (and many can earn a living in a band or orchestra). So why are they seeking funds from people less fortunate than themselves? Still, at the moment this question is academic. Looks like I’m going to have a long spell without work. A chance to enjoy all this sunshine we’re getting? Plus keep plugging away at my computer ventures – more of this in a later post…

I don’t know if this has reached other lands, but it certainly feels this way in England. Imagine having to turn on the light in daytime in August to read. Well that’s what it’s been like here. I rather suspect we’re going to get plenty of sunshine in the Autumn, when most of us are back at work. Sod’s law..

I get my first full monthly pay packet since March this week. As you can guess, it’s already all allocated. I’ve noticed also that I’m starting to spend again. Ok, only in small amounts – a newspaper now and again, a beer or two down the pub at the weekend. Well, at least I’m starting to make a contribution again to the local economy.

One more thing – it’s gorgeous weather here in England. In fact one or two are already starting to complain it’s too hot. It won’t last – it is England after all!

Give me sunshine!

It doesn’t get much better than sunshine and 22 degrees in May in the UK. Funny thing is, I can’t take the sun like I used to do. I went out for a walk and to eat my sandwiches in the sun. Afterwards I was very happy to come back into the shade. Must be getting old…
